About Heartsaver Training for Community Members
The Heartsaver course series, developed by the American Heart Association, is specifically designed for non-medical individuals and groups. These programs are widely adopted by local governments, volunteer organizations, and community-based nonprofits across North Carolina and Virginia.
All courses provide:
- Step-by-step, easy-to-understand instruction
- Hands-on skill practice in a supportive environment
- Official AHA course completion cards, valid for 2 years
- Instructors experienced in adapting content to various group types
All courses listed below are part of the Heartsaver series and are appropriate for non-medical participants. These programs teach life-saving skills in an engaging, hands-on format with content tailored to real-world emergencies that may occur during events, games, meetings, or youth activities.
Heartsaver CPR/AED – Adult, Child, Infant + First Aid
Our most comprehensive course for community groups. Learn how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants, use an AED, and provide first aid for bleeding, burns, choking, allergic reactions, and other emergencies.
Heartsaver CPR/AED – Adult, Child, Infant
Perfect for organizations focused specifically on cardiac emergencies and CPR readiness. Covers CPR techniques and AED use for all age groups — no first aid component.
Heartsaver First Aid
Focused on managing common injuries and illnesses. Learn how to respond to cuts, sprains, burns, asthma attacks, and more — without CPR instruction. Ideal for staff and volunteers at events or recreational activities.
Online Training with In-Person Skills Evaluation
Can’t attend an in-person session? Many Heartsaver courses are available in a blended format with online coursework followed by a short in-person skill session.
